The eve of a remodel can be a little intimating if you don't know what to expect. Below are a few things to expect on the first day, and a few requests we have for you that will help us do our job effectively. Before your project start be sure to complete the "communications and expectations" document so we know how to best serve you! We are excited for your project and we want you to be also!

Prior to our arrival on the first day, here's a few thing you can do:

  1. Completely clear out the space that's going to be remodeled, meaning, remove all your personal items and trash, including any window treatments if you're able.
  2. Take down any wall hangings/art on the adjacent walls of the space (including the ceiling below) and on the way to the workspace.
  3. Remove as many personal items as possible between the work space and the house entrance, especially items that are sensitive to dust.
  4. Anything that is special to you please put in a safe space. Sometimes during construction the walls and floors can shake/rattle and we wouldn't want anything special to you to accidentally get damaged.
  5. Please create a safe spot for your pets during construction hours.

Here's what you can expect from us on the first day:

  1. Your dumpster will arrive and be place in the designated area.
  2. You can expect trucks, and often trailers, to be coming and going daily, and sometimes parked overnight if there is space.
  3. We will put up dust and floor protection that will be used throughout your project. On the floor you will see drop clothes, and in many cases you will see "poly" walls put up to contain dust. This will be a daily routine up and down.
  4. You may see tools and supplies on the drop clothes or spaces around the worksite during work hours. At the end of each day the drop clothes and tools will all be put alway and safely stored in a place that will not be a tripping hazard or an eye sore for you as you enjoy your house in the evenings.
  5. We require anyone not working, pets, and children to stay clear of the work space during work hours, and exercise extreme caution when inspecting the workspace after work hours. Children should never be allowed in the workspace unattended.
  6. We leave tools out when we take breaks, but unplug all power tools so they are disabled. They are still to be considered hazards and should not be handled.
  7. We will have a lockbox onsite to gain access to your home when you're not around. We will keep your house secure both while we are there and upon leaving. We will never leave your house doors unlocked or windows open.
  8. Typical work hours are between 7:30 and 5:00. Requests will be communicated in advance for earlier or later work hours.
  9. No one should be allowed access to your home unless specified by Phil Carlson Custom Woodcraft, or any of his team.
